ST. LOUIS -- The Missouri Valley Conference announced its men's and women's swimming and diving weekly honors on Wednesday.
MEN’S SWIMMER: Willem Huggins, Southern Illinois | Sophomore | Carbondale, Ill.
Huggins secures his second Swimmer of the Week title this year after helping SIU defeat McKendree 193-107 on Friday. The sophomore helped the 200-medley and 400-free relay teams win, and took individual gold medals in the 100- and 200-backstroke with times of 47.71 and 1:47.32, respectively.
MEN’S DIVER: Lucas Lauzon, Southern Illinois | Sophomore | Chesterton, Ind.
Lauzon earned two first-place finishes at Friday’s meet versus McKendree. The Chesterton, Indiana, native grabbed first in both the 1- and 3-meter dive with an identical score of 330.23 in each event. This is the reigning MVC Freshman Diver of the Year’s first career Diver of the Week award.
MEN’S FRESHMAN: Noah Pelinkovic, UIC | Freshman
Noah Pelinkovic was outstanding for the Flames in endurance races against U Chicago, tallying two wins over the course of the meet in the 1000 freestyle (9:25.94) and 500 freestyle (4:32.56) scoring 22 points for the Flames. Pelinkovic’s time in the 1000 freestyle is good for a top-five time in the MVC. The freshman was also a part of a second place finishing 400 freestyle relay (3:04.87) team. This is the first weekly award of Pelinkovic’s career.
WOMEN’S SWIMMER: Olivia Herron, Southern Illinois | Senior | Manchester, England
It was a record-breaking weekend for Olivia Herron. On Friday, during SIU’s 208.5-50.5 win over McKendree, the senior was a part of the winning 200-medley relay team while also winning the 200-butterfly and 400-IM events. Both of Herron’s times in those two events (1:58.54 and 4:12.81) were Southern records, and her performance in the 400-IM reset the Missouri Valley Conference record as well. Then, in Southern’s 183.5-75.5 win over Vanderbilt on Saturday, Herron helped the 400-medley relay team win their event while also securing individual wins in the 100- and 200-breaststroke and the 200-IM. This is Herron’s fifth Swimmer of the Week title this season.
WOMEN’S DIVER: Delaney Nickles, Missouri State | Freshman | St. Paul, Minn.
Missouri State rookie Delaney Nickles swept the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events this past weekend as the Missouri State women split with Drury. Nickles opened up on Friday with a winning score of 256.95 at Drury in the 3-meter, before winning the 1-meter event at Hammons Student Center with a score of 264.75.
WOMEN’S FRESHMAN: Amara Addison, Little Rock | Freshman | Norwich, Norfolk, United Kingdom
Amara Addison contributed to Little Rock’s success at the Mardi Gras Invitational this last weekend as the Trojans faced North Texas, New Mexico and Tulane at the event. Addison notched the school and pool record in the 50-yard backstroke against Tulane, clocking a time of 25.22. She earned a first-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke against North Texas, finishing in 56.26 seconds. She was the lead-off swimmer in both the 200-medley and 400-medley relay events, which each posted winning performances, before serving as the anchor in the 200-yard freestyle relay team to beat New Mexico in the event.
