2025 MVC Men's Golf Championship

Illinois State Claims Missouri Valley Crown

Illinois State earned a three-stroke victory over second-place Murray State in a 54-hole championship that went down to the wire.  Murray State's Trey Wall took medalist honors at Missouri Valley Conference Men's Golf Championship at the par-72, 7,267-yard Des Moines Golf & Country Club (North Course) in West Des Moines, Iowa, hosted by Drake University.

With a final-round 285, the Redbirds tied for the lowest round of Tuesday, and the team’s 856 out-distanced Murray State’s 859. Belmont (866), Drake (873), Valparaiso (875), Northern Iowa (880), Southern Illinois (883), Bradley (889), Evansville (896), and Missouri State (907) rounded out the 10 schools in the tournament field.

Wall became the first student-athlete from the Murray State men's golf program to win the Missouri Valley Conference Individual Championship Tuesday when he carded a final round 3-under-par 69 to secure a two-shot victory.  Wall, a redshirt freshman from Benton, Ky., had a tremendous first day at the event when bad weather on Sunday pushed Monday to become a 36-hole day. Wall shot a score of 70 in the morning and then posted a game-changing 67 in the afternoon to create a one-shot lead.  The Racers had their best finish in three tries at The Valley title of second place, after a fifth in 2023 and a fourth in 2024.

TUESDAY FINAL-ROUND NOTES
  • Wall fired a 10-under 70-67-69 for a 206.  He’s the first freshman to earn medalist honors since Valparaiso’s Anthony Delisanti won the league championship in 2022.  Wall was named MVC Freshman of the Year.  His 206 set a league all-time low for a par-72, 54-hole tournament.  His 10-under-par score for the tournament outdistanced the rest of the field by two strokes.
  • Anthony De Schutter of Southern Illinois is the league's Newcomer of the Year.  De Schutter is the fifth Saluki to win the league’s Newcomer of the Year honor.  His 71.6 stroke average heading into the tournament was second-best in the Missouri Valley Conference.
  • The 2025 Golfer of the Year is Valparaiso’s Anthony Delisanti. Delisanti entered the tournament ranked No. 144 in the nation, and he is the highest rated MVC golfer.  He was the league’s Golfer of the Year in 2023 and the league’s Newcomer of the Year in 2022.  Delisanti is a two-time individual MVC Championship medalist and now a four-time MVC All-Conference selection.  He’s just the 12th golfer in MVC history to win MVC first-team all-league honors four times.  He’s just the 5th golfer in MVC history to win Golfer of the Year honors twice.
  • Kralis has been voted the league’s Coach of the Year by his peers in each of the past three seasons.  ISU's title marks the first time an MVC school has swept both men’s and women’s golf in the same season was in 2019; the last time ISU won both was in 2005.
MONDAY 36-HOLE RECAP
The Racers broke from the gate like a fast thoroughbred with a 2-under-par 286 and were five shots behind Illinois State. In the afternoon 18, MSU shaved a pair of shots from the morning and posted a 4-under-par 284. When the Redbirds carded a 290, the Racers had a one-shot lead at 570.  Murray State's Trey Wall is the individual leader with 18 holes to play after a score line of 70-67=137 (7-under) and had a one-shot lead over Belmont's Foster Wood (69-69=138).  Monday's opening 18 holes featured some of the league's best all-time performances.  Illinois State’s 281 tied for the third-lowest 18-hole score  (for a par-72 event) in league history.  Murray State’s Jay Nimmo’s 66 is tied for the second-best all-time for an 18-hole score (for a par-72 event).
