Player of the Week: Katelyn Young, Murray State

The Racers all-time leading scorer proved to be a dominant force this week in each of Murray State’s wins over Indiana State and Evansville as the Racers clinched their first-ever MVC title. Katelyn Young averaged 29.0 points and 6.0 rebounds while shooting 69% from the field in just 28 minutes per game. Young surpassed 2,900 career points this week and now ranks 18
th on the all-time Division I scoring list.
Elyce Knudsen averaged 20.5 point per game on 55.6% shooting from the floor and 71.4% shooting from deep across two wins for Illinois State last week. She scored a season-high 28 points in a win over Southern Illinois Sunday, knocking down a career-high seven threes and dishing five assists. It was the most points in a single game by any newcomer last week. She is one of just four MVC players, and the only MVC newcomer, this season to tally 25+ points and make 7+ threes in a single Valley game. It marked her second MVC game this season with 5+ threes. She is the only Valley newcomer with multiple outings of 5+ threes this season. She shot 62.5% from the floor and 71.4% from deep in the win, marking the second time in MVC play this year Knudsen has tallied 20+ points on better than 60% shooting from the floor and 60% shooting from deep. She is the only MVC newcomer to score 20+ points on 60% shooting from the floor and 60% shooting from deep in any Valley game this season.

Lainie Douglas earned her fifth MVC Freshman of the Week award on Monday after helping the Lady Bears secure their 15th regular-season title in program history. The rookie averaged 8.5 points and 6.0 rebounds per game in just 15.0 minutes per contest. Douglas tied her career high with three blocks in the Lady Bears' win over Illinois State. She is one of just four freshmen in NCAA Division I shooting at least 55% (min. 100 FGA) with at least 20 blocks.
