Belmont’s Tuti Jones helped the Bruins take sole possession of first place in The Valley standings with a 96-89 win over Murray State on Saturday. Jones tied her career-high with 29 points, going 10-for-15 from the field while shooting 57% from 3-point range. The guard tallied her first double-double of the season and just the third of her career, securing 10 rebounds in the effort. Sitting at a deficit heading into the final quarter, Jones notched eight of her 29 points in the final frame to give the Bruins the victory. She added four assists and two steals, and went without a turnover in 36 minutes of action.
NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK: ADDISON MARTIN, ILLINOIS STATE

Illinois State’s Addison Martin averaged 17.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game on 15-of-22 (68.1%) shooting from the floor. She posted a season-high 23 points, going 9-of-11 from the floor, in a win over the Salukis, marking her first 20-plus point outing this season while adding seven rebounds and three assists. Martin is one of just six Valley players to score at least 20 points on 80% shooting or better in an MVC game this season. She followed that performance with 12 points in a win over the Lady Bears, shooting 50% or better from the floor for the 10th-straight game. Martin leads the league in field goal percentage (65.0%) this season, including a Valley-best 72.0% in
Conference play.
FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK: LAINIE DOUGLAS, MISSOURI STATE

For the second-straight week, Missouri State’s Lainie Douglas has been tabbed the MVC Freshman of the Week. Douglas averaged just 12 minutes a game, as the Lady Bears opened the weekend with a win at Bradley. The rookie notched a career-high 17 points, including 15 of those points in the second half, on a career-best eight-made field goals against the Braves. In just 15 minutes on the floor, Douglas added three rebounds while tying a career high with a trio of blocks. In just nine minutes on the court at Illinois State, Douglas grabbed five rebounds and added two points and a block.
