MVC Announces Weekly Golfer of the Week Honors

This week's Missouri Valley Conference golfers of the week include Jinyoung Yun of Illinois State and Jake Weissenburger of Drake.

MEN
The Drake men's golf team was back in action for its first tournament of the spring season and wrapped up play the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate on Wednesday.  UNI was also in the field.  The Bulldogs placed 13th in the tournament with a 54-hole total of 885 (291-300-294).  UNI took 15th place with a three-round 925.  Drake sophomore Jake Weissenburger led the way on the leaderboard and tied for third place individually. Weissenburger began his tournament by firing a career-low 65 in his opening round, which had him tied for first. He proceeded to shoot rounds of 72 and 69 following his first round posting a 206 total, which marked a career-best 54-hole score for the sophomore.  JD Pollard was the top finisher for the Panthers as he finished in a tie for 71st with a three-round 227.

The Illinois State men's golf team shot an even-par final round at the Dorado Beach Collegiate and finished third overall in the strong field with a three-round score of 844 (-20), which is tied for the seventh-best team tournament score in program history.  The three-day, 54-hole event was hosted by UNCG at the par-72, 7119-yard TPC Dorado Beach Sugarcane course.  Valparaiso also represented the MVC in the event.

ISU had its top four golfers finish inside of the top-20 in the event, as Will Troy and TJ Barger each tied for eighth with a 54-hole score of 209, as the pair have tied themselves with the 24th-best tournament score in program history, as there are now 35 times when a Redbird golfer shot a score under 210.  Tournament host UNCG took the team title with a three-round score of 843, while Southern Miss edged out the Redbirds for runner-up 843-to-844. Valparaiso senior Anthony Delisanti (Sanborn, N.Y. / Niagara Wheatfield) turned in a 71 (-1) in Round 3, finishing the event at 215 (-1), tied for 28th in a 101-player field. He eagled the par-5 14th hole to highlight his third round.

The Murray State Racers men's golf team posted a fourth-place showing in the first event of the spring season Tuesday at the Gulf Coast Collegiate at English Turn Golf & Country Club in New Orleans, La.  The Racers had team scores of 301-285-292=878 and were five shots from third place Western Carolina at 873.  Lennon Albans and Kamaren Cunningham were the top MSU finishers as they shared 11th place at 217 (1-over par) in the field of 96 competitors.

The Belmont men's golf team finished in 10th place at the rain-shortened World Golf Village Collegiate held this week at The King and Bear Course in St. Augustine, Fla.  The Bruins posted rounds of 316 and 298 to finish the event in 10th place at 614.  North Florida captured the team title at 577, while Butler was second at 602.  Junior Conner Brown tied for 29th place after posting rounds of 75 and 78 for a 153 total.  

Southern Illinois men's golf finished the Lake Las Vegas Invitational on Wednesday, placing 13th out of 15 teams. The Salukis finished with a score of 896 (+32), and Long Beach State won the tournament.  Anthony De Schutter was the Salukis' top performer finishing tied for 30th, with a score of 218 (+2). De Schutter started the first round shooting a 71 (-1).

WOMEN
Behind the fifth-lowest tournament score in program history, the Illinois State women's golf team finished as the runner-up at the 2025 Rio Verde Invitational, including using a final-round 282 (-6), tied for the fourth-lowest single-round in school history.  Leading the way over the final 18 holes for the Redbirds was freshman Elise Fennell, who set the freshman school record for the lowest single-round by a first-year golfer in ISU history with a 68 (-4), climbing 34 spots in the individual standings over the final 18 holes of the tournament.  In what ended up being a three-team battle for the team championship, Cal Baptist edged out the Redbirds by one stroke, 864-to-865

Jinyoung Yun was the team's top individual finisher, as her three-round 212 (-4) came from rounds of 71, 69, and 72 and had her finish second overall individually. Her final round had five birdies and eight pars, and the 212 is tied for the eighth-best tournament score in program history.

Missouri State' Kiser Pannier fired an even-par 72 in Sunday's final round at the Rio Verde Invitational to pick up her first top-10 finish of the season for the Missouri State women's golf team. The junior from Sedalia, Mo. opened the tournament Friday with a two-under 70, then followed with a 77 in round two to post a 219 total and finish in a tie for 10th after three trips around the White Wing Course at Rio Verde Country Club.  The Bears' team fortunes weren't as good in their spring opener, however, as they struggled to a 15th-place finish in the 21-team field.

Bradley sophomore Jillian Cosler registered her fourth finish in the top 25 out of six meets this season as the Braves completed the Rio Verde Invitational to begin the spring portion of the season.  Cosler paced the Braves in the three-day tournament, using an even-par 72 on the final day to propel herself to a four-way tie for 15th place.  Bradley finished tied for 16th out of 21 teams on the team leaderboard.

Murray State sophomore Patti Patterson came home with a 15th place showing at the Grand Canyon University Invitational in Phoenix, Arizona at the GCU Golf Course.  Patterson, out of Tallahassee, Fla., carded scores of 69-75-76=220 in the field of 76 competitors. Her first round 3-under-par 69 was her career-low round in 41 total rounds over two seasons with the Racers.  The Racers placed 12th on scores of 294-305-312=911.
