MVC Announces Weekly Player Honors

This week's Missouri Valley Conference men's basketball players of the week include Tucker DeVries of Drake; Ryan Conwell of Indiana State; and Cooper Schwieger of Valparaiso.

Player of the Week
Tucker DeVries, Drake

DeVries averaged 34.0 points, 9.5 rebounds, 4.0 steals and 3.5 assists across two wins. In a triple overtime thriller at UIC on Wednesday, DeVries poured in a career-high 39 points, career-high 13 rebounds and matched his career-high of seven assists. On Sunday in a 74-66 win over Bradley at the Knapp Center, he scored a game-high 29 points (23 in the first half) while swiping a game-high four steals again and was 9-for-9 from the charity stripe. DeVries has scored over 30 points four times this season and moved into No. 2 on the Drake career scoring list with 1,790 points, passing Josh Young.

Newcomer of the Week
Ryan Conwell, Indiana State

Conwell helped ISU to a 2-0 week and its first MVC regular season title since 2000 with two more huge performances. For the week, Conwell averaged 19.5 PPG, 9.5 RPG, and 3.0 AST/G while shooting 63.2% from the floor, 73.3% from deep and 100% from the free throw line. At Evansville, Conwell tallied 15 points making 5-for-8 from three. He secured seven rebounds and three assists. In the season finale against Murray State, Conwell led the way for the Sycamores, scoring 24 points on 7-for-10 from the floor, including a 6-for-7 effort from beyond the arc. He tied his career-high with 12 rebounds, also dishing out three assists and swiping one pass. Sunday’s double-double marked Conwell’s fourth of the season. In the final 10 minutes of the game, Conwell scored seven of ISU's nine points from 9:38 to 5:49, allowing the Sycamores to hold an 11-point, 77-66 lead. The final made three-throw of the night for ISU was Conwell triple, which gave the Trees the 11th three-pointer it needed to break the school record in total made threes by the team.

Freshman of the Week
Cooper Schwieger, Valparaiso

After missing Tuesday's game at UNI due to illness, Valpo freshman Cooper Schwieger poured in a career-high 28 points to lead all scorers in Valpo's 75-72 victory over Illinois State on Sunday afternoon at the Athletics-Recreation Center. He hit big shot after big shot down the stretch, lifting the Beacons to the home win. Schwieger went 12-of-17 shooting and pulled down five rebounds in the regular-season finale. He achieved a career high in scoring for the second straight outing as his previous best of 26 came in his last game on Feb. 24 at Murray State.
