ST. LOUIS – Valley Cross Country programs wrap up the 2024 NCAA Regional Championships with one top ten finish, five top twenty-five finishes, 20 top 50 finishes, and 47 top 100 finishes across the nine NCAA Regional sites. The Valley was represented in the Midwest, Great Lakes, South, and Southeast Regions. William Sinclair of Illinois State earned 9
th place in the Midwest Region to advance himself to the 2024 NCAA Cross Country Championships. The MVC champion finished the men’s 10k with a time of 29:20.1 for a new Illinois State program record. Sinclair led the Redbird men to a fourth place team finish overall with a score of 179.
18 teams on each side will automatically qualify (two per region, from regional championships) while the remaining 13 for each of the men's and women's championships will be picked at large on Saturday November 16
th at 5 p.m. ET. For individuals to automatically qualify they must be one of the first four that do not belong to an automatic qualifying team.
The 2024 NCAA Cross Country Championship Race will be held at Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course in Verona, Wisconsin on Saturday, Nov. 23. It will be streamed live on ESPNU beginning at 9:30 a.m. ET.
South Region –
Belmont women finished 14th out of 31 participating institutions. The Bruins were led by Brooke Garter who finished the 6K with a time of 28
th with a time of 20:38.0. The Belmont men finished 11th out of the 26 participating institutions. Nick Mota led the men with a time of 31:15.6. The Bruins finished seven in the top 100 of the men’s race while the women finished three in the top 100 of their 6K.
Southeast Region – The
Murray State women finished 30
th as a team in a field of 35, while the men finished 30th out of a field of 33. The Racers were led by Alyssa More who finished the women with a 6K time of 22:58.8 for a top 125 finish in the race. For the men, Dylan Ellis finished 171st place with a time of 33:54.7 in the men’s 10K.
Great Lakes Region –
Indiana State women led The Valley in the Great Lakes Region finishing eighth out of 32 teams. The Sycamore women were led by Emma Gresham’s 6K time of 20:10.0 where she finished 23rd overall. The Sycamores also finished three in the top 50 as a women’s program. The Sycamore men finished seventeenth as a team finishing three runners in the top 100 runners. The
Evansville men took 28th as a team finishing five in the top 200 of the race, led by Samuel Lea’s top time of 32:13.0 for 134th place individually. The
Valparaiso men were led by Joseph Scheele’s finishing place of 71st for the men finishing 26th as a team. The Beacons were led by Laetitia Raoult’s 6k time of 20:59.6 for the women and Scheele’s 10k time of 30:53.8 for the men.
Midwest Region –
Bradley led The Valley in the Midwest for the women finishing sixth as a team out of the 33 teams. The men finished seventh overall as a team of the 29 participants. The Braves were led by Kaitlyn Sheppard’s in the 6K with a time of 20:28.66 for 24
th place and led by Jayde Rosslee with a time of 30:07.70 in the 10k. The women finished four in the top 55 runners alongside the men who finished three in the top 50 of their respective race.
Drake men finished fifteenth as a team, with the women finishing sixteenth overall as a team. Top runner Tyla Lumley led the way for the Bulldog women with a time of 20:22.17 in the 6k for a top 20 finish, while Juan Trasobares earned 28
th for the men with a time of 30:10.13.
Illinois State’s women finishing nineteenth overall, with two finishers in the top 100 runners.
Northern Iowa women took fifteenth place as a team in the field alongside the men’s 24
th place team finish. The Panthers finished four in the top 100 of the field for the women and three in the top 150 of the men.
UIC’s men earned 23rd as a team finishing two in the top 100 alongside the women who finished two in the top 150, for 29th place as a team. The Flames were led by Daniel Chavez’s finishing time of 31:05.06 for a 84
th place finish in the men’s 10K.
Missouri State women finished 26
th as a team finishing three runners in the top 150 of the race. The Bears totaled a score of 701 led by Marry Margaret Harris’ time of 21:38.38 in the 6K.
Southern Illinois took 29th a men’s team and 32nd for the women. The Salukis finished three in the top 200 of the race for the women and five in the top 200 of the men.
