MVC Volleyball Weekly Notebook - Sept. 18

After completing four weeks of non-conference action, a full slate of league play begins this weekend. Twelve conference matches will be played this weekend as all 12 schools will begin the 2023 MVC schedule on Friday and Saturday.

Valley teams combined to post a 16-14 record in non-conference matches during the final full weekend of non-conference play and will enter the conference season with a 72-68 overall record in non-conference play. Nine Valley teams sit at or above .500 on the season entering the league schedule.

The Valley notched another win over Power Five competition during the week as UIC beat Northwestern in five sets in Evanston.  It was the Flames’ first road win vs. a Big Ten opponent since 1990. MVC teams combined to win four matches vs. Power Five teams during the non-conference slate.

Drake's Addison Beagle, Evansville's Giulia Cardona and Murray State's Dahlia Miller each enter the week top three in the nation in a statistical category.

Missouri State’s Azyah Green recorded her 500th career block during Thursday’s match with Lindenwood, becoming the fifth player in school history to reach that milestone.

With Valpo's two wins on the weekend, head coach Carin Avery owns 479 wins at the helm of the Valpo volleyball program, surpassing Valpo Athletics Hall of Fame member Emory Bauer as the winningest coach across all sports in Valpo Athletics history.

UIC's Martina Delucchi surpassed 1,000 digs over the weekend. The Valley now has nine active players with 1,000+ career digs.
