ST. LOUIS -- Senior Ja'Shon Henry of Bradley and sophomore Tytan Anderson of UNI headline the list of selections for the 2023 Missouri Valley Conference specialty teams for men’s basketball. Henry has been tabbed the conference’s Team Captain for the All-Bench Team, while Anderson is the league’s Team Captain for the Most-Improved Team.
The teams, which were selected by a panel of the league's newspaper beat writers and a panel of media voters, are comprised of a minimum of five student-athletes (top five vote-getters, plus ties) on each squad.
Henry continues to be Bradley's ace off the bench. The 6th year senior has collected double digit scoring in 14 of his 25 games played this season. Henry has started just two games despite averaging nearly 20 minutes per game in 2022-23. He's has also been great from the floor as he has shot under 50% from the floor just one time since January 18, and he has been BU's leading scorer three times during their 10-game win streak. He averages 9.4 points and 4.2 rebounds per game, which are fourth and third-best for the league champion.
Anderson started all 30 games for UNI. He enters the State Farm MVC Tournament averaging 12.6 points and a league-best 8.8 rebounds per games. Anderson also leads the MVC with 11 double-doubles. This season, he has shot 48.4% from the field with a team-high 41 steals and 14 blocked shots. Those numbers improved from averaging 1.6 points and 2.0 rebounds a game last season. Anderson scored a career-high 25 points in UNI’s non-conference win over St. Bonaventure, and he pulled down a career-best 18 rebounds vs. Murray State, setting a new single-game home record and tying UNI’s program record for single home game rebounds against an MVC opponent.
