2022 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field All-America

NEW ORLEANS – All-America honors for the 2022 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field season were announced Monday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

The Missouri Valley Conference had three individuals named First-Team All-America, two individuals named Second-Team All-America and five individuals earning Honorable Mention honors.

Student-athletes earned First-Team All-America status by finishing among the top-8 of their events – including as a member of a relay – at the 2022 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships this past weekend in Eugene, Oregon. Second-Team All-America honors went to those student-athletes who finished between ninth and 16th place.

Honorable mention went to those student-athletes who finished 17th through 24th in their respective events at Hayward Field.


First-Team All-America
Logan Calvin, Illinois State – Shot Put
Redshirt senior thrower Logan Calvin earned First Team All-America honors in the shot put at the 2022 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, becoming the second Redbird in school history to earn First Team honors in the men's shot put. With a sixth-place finish, Calvin also becomes the highest finisher in school history in the men's shot put at an NCAA meet. On his second throw of the night, Calvin tossed his best mark of the meet at 19.83m (65-3.25). The throw moved him into fifth overall, as he earned three more attempts. Five of Calvin's six throws were above 19 meters, as he finished the NCAA meet in sixth-place.

Darius King, Northern Iowa – Shot Put
Darius King earned his fourth all-America honor with a fifth-place finish at the 2022 NCAA Division I Track and Field Championships. King secured a spot in the finals and his place with the first toss of the night, throwing 20.04 meters (65 feet, 9 inches). King is the first Panther to earn Division I first team all-America honors in shot put.

A'veun Moore-Jones, Southern Illinois – Shot Put
A'veun Moore-Jones earned the fourth All-American honor of her career after she notched a new personal best in the shot put.  Her first throw of the event was a PR at 17.43m (57' 2.25").   Her second attempt traveled 17.31m (56' 9.50").  After three rounds, Moore-Jones found herself in seventh place which advanced her to the finals.  She fouled on attempts four and five, but was able mark on her sixth attempt.  That mark was another new personal best, this one measuring in at 17.63m (57' 10.25").  That distance is the fourth-best mark in school history.

 Second-Team All-America
Isaac Basten, Drake – 1,500m
Drake University track & field student-athlete Isaac Basten clocked another impressive 1500m performance with a time of 3:46.67 in the NCAA Division I Track & Field Outdoor championships final at Hayward Field on Friday, June 10. Basten, a First Team Indoor All-American added another Outdoor All-America accolade with his Second Team honor after a 10th place finish. Basten pushed himself near the front until the final lap.
 
Tom Yezek, Northern Iowa - Discus
Tom Yezek earned Second Team All-America honors with a 14th-place finish in discus at the 2022 NCAA Division I Track and Field Championships. Yezek opened with a throw of 52.68 meters (172 feet, 10 inches). He improved on his second attempt with a throw of 56.82 meters (186-5). He scratched on his third throw.
 
Honorable-Mention
Anthony Barmes, Drake -- Hammer Throw
In the men's hammer throw, Anthony Barmes finished in 21st place and earned NCAA All-America Honorable Mention status. His second throw of the afternoon sailed 215'-1" (65.57m).

Elisia Lancaster, Southern Illinois -- Hammer Throw
This was the second All-American honor for Elisia Lancaster as she previously earned Second Team All-American at the 2022 NCAA Indoor Championships.  Lancaster fouled on her first attempt of the competition after being the third athlete out of the gate in flight one.  Her second toss measured in at 62.08m (203' 8").  Her third and final throw of the event was her longest, marking at 64.30m (210' 7"). 

Kayla Schiera, Southern Illinois -- 3,000m Steeplechase
Kayla Schiera's Honorable Mention was the first All-American honor of her career.  She finished the steeplechase event in 10:29.58 to finish 10th in heat one and 22nd overall. Schiera capped off a memorable final season in the Maroon and White in which she set school records in the 3000m Steeplechase, outdoor 5000m, indoor 5000m, and the indoor 3000m.  

Shauniece O’Neal, Southern Illinois -- Hammer Throw
Shauniece O'Neal's Honorable Mention status was the fifth time in her career that she has captured All-American honors. O'Neal marked at 64.83m (212' 8") on her first throw of the competition.  After fouling on her second attempt, her third came up just short of her initial heave at 64.47m (212' 2").  O'Neal found herself in seventh place after flight one, but would ultimately land in 17th after the conclusion of flight two.
 
Ryann Porter, Indiana State - Triple Jump
Indiana State sophomore Ryann Porter earned Honorable Mention All-America honors for a second straight season Saturday, placing 19th in the women's triple jump at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships at Hayward Field. Porter, who is one of two women in program history to compete in the triple jump at the outdoor national championships, had a top mark of 12.76m (41-10.50) in the event. She recorded her top mark on her opening attempt, with her other two jumps being marked at 12.38m (40-07.50) and 12.56m (41-03.75).
