CHICAGO (April 1, 2022) – Loyola University Chicago graduate student Lucas Williamson (Chicago, Ill./Whitney Young), has been named a Senior CLASS Award Men's Basketball First Team All-American, it was announced today.
Williamson was named a finalist for the prestigious Senior CLASS Award, which is presented annually to the most outstanding student-athlete in Division I men's basketball, earlier this year.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior or graduate student and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: classroom, community, character and competition.
Williamson recently completed an illustrious career that he concluded as the program's winningest player of all time with 124 victories. The 6-foot-4 guard, who was a three-time Missouri Valley Conference All-Defensive Team selection and a two-time MVC Defensive Player of the Year, helped the Ramblers to three MVC regular season championships, three MVC Championship titles, three NCAA Tournament berths and a National Invitation Tournament appearance during his five-year career.
A First Team All-MVC designee in 2021-22, Williamson had his best all-around campaign this season, averaging 13.7 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.3 steals per game, while shooting 39 percent (73-for-187) from three-point range. He finished his career one of only 23 players in Loyola men's basketball history to amass over 1,000 points and 500 rebounds.
Off the court, Williamson has been a member of the MVC Honor Roll, played a key role in the formation of Loyola's Rambler Alliance for Equity, and served as the narrator and co-writer of
The Loyola Project documentary about the 1963 Loyola NCAA championship men's basketball team.
