ST. LOUIS -- Sophomore Sheldon Edwards of Valparaiso and junior Antonio Reeves of Illinois State headline the list of selections for the 2022 Missouri Valley Conference specialty teams for men’s basketball. Edwards has been tabbed the conference’s Team Captain for the All-Bench Team, while Reeves is the league’s Team Captain for the Most-Improved Team.

The teams, which were selected by the league's newspaper beat writers, are comprised of a minimum of five student-athletes (top five vote-getters, plus ties) on each squad.
Sheldon Edwards enters the tournament having played in 30 games this season. Edwards is just the third different Valpo player since 1992-1993 to notch 20 blocks, 30 steals, 30 assists and 50 made 3s in a season, and he has a chance to become the first Valpo player to lead the team in both steals and blocked shots since 1999-2000 as he currently holds the team lead in both areas. Edwards ranks among the league leaders in steals per game and made 3s per game. He enters the tournament averaging 11.3 points per game to go along with a 77.3 percent free-throw clip, 3.9 rebounds per contest plus 39 assists, 25 blocks and 34 steals.
Antonio Reeves enters the tournament leading the MVC in scoring average (20.2), a season after averaging 12.4 points for Illinois State. Reeves has improved every statistical category this season, including field goal makes (110-to-224), three-point field goals (33-to-74), free throws (58-to-105), rebounds (82-to-108), assists (36-to-56), blocks (6-to-12), and steals (9-to-34). His scoring total this season is higher than his freshman and sophomore years, combined. His career-high came on February 9 at home against Valparaiso with 34 point. Reeves had his first career double-double on December 21 against UTSA.
