Women's Basketball Player/Newcomer of the Week (Dec. 6)

Southern Illinois' Abby Brockmeyer averaged 25.5 points and 17.0 rebounds per game, while shooting 60% from the field as the Salukis beat Eastern Illinois and fell to Western Illinois at the Compass Challenge over the weekend.  The award is Brockmeyer's 2nd MVC Player of the Week honor of her career and first since the 2017-18 season (Jan. 2).

Evansville senior and Saint Louis transfer Myia Clark averaged 22.5 points and 3.5 rebounds per game against Miami (OH) and Murray State this past week, earning her first Newcomer of the Week honor.

MISSOURI VALLEY CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Abby Brockmeyer, Gr., F, Southern Illinois
SIU graduate forward Abby Brockmeyer started off the weekend setting new career highs in points (34) and rebounds (16) as the Salukis beat Eastern Illinois. Brockmeyer shot 12-18 (67%) against Eastern, and 10 of her rebounds were offensive boards. The very next day against Western Illinois, Brockmeyer again set a new career high in rebounds with 18 to go with 17 points scored and four assists. Overall, the graduate forward averaged 25.5 points and 17 rebounds over the weekend, shooting 60% (18-of-30) from the field and 78.9% (15-of-19) from the free throw line. She now has double-doubles in three of the Salukis’ five game this season and has scored at least 14 points in four of SIU’s five games this season.
 
MISSOURI VALLEY CONFERENCE NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK:
Myia Clark, Sr., G, Evansville

In two non-conference games, senior Myia Clark recorded two of her best performances as an Ace. On the week, Clark averaged 22.5 points and 3.5 boards, including a career-high 26 points against Miami (Ohio) on Saturday. On the season, Clark is third on the team in scoring, averaging 14.3 points per game and providing a spark on the glass from the front court with a 4.4 rebound per game average.
      
Noteworthy - In addition to the league's player and newcomer of the week selections, several conference players had notable performances, and they include:  

Gabi Haack (BU) -  Haack continued to put up big numbers during what turned into a one-game week for the Braves by scoring a team-high 22 points and sharing team-high honors with seven rebounds Saturday at North Dakota State … Haack made 8-of-16 field goal attempts, including 4-of-9 from beyond the arc, and sank both of her free throw attempts … She also dished two assists and had two steals against the Bison in the 125th game of her career, tying the school record for the most career games played.

Maggie Bair (DU) - Drake junior forward Maggie Bair helped the Bulldogs to a fourth-straight win as Drake beat Longwood 104-82. Bair finished the contest with a team-high 22 points, adding nine rebounds and two blocks in the Bulldog win.  She led the Bulldogs scoring efforts in the second half when she went 8 for 11 from the floor.  Bair also only played 15 minutes in the win.   

Abby Feit (UE) - Continuing to pad her stats, junior Abby Feit put in another pair of strong performances this weekend. Feit averaged a double-double on the weekend with 16 points and 10 boards per game, while averaging three steals and 2.5 blocks per contest. Feit’s 14 point, 11 board performance against Miami (Ohio) on Sunday was the junior’s fifth double-double of the season, while tallying a season-high five steals. On the season, Feit is seventh in the nation in doubles and leads The Valley in six statistical categories.   

JuJu Redmond (ILS) - Redmond posted her second 20+ point performance in the last three games on Sunday, finishing with game highs in points (22) and rebounds (8) in ISU’s game against Atlantic 10 Conference preseason favorite Dayton. The fifth year averaged 13.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists last week, also recording six rebounds, five assists four points and two steals in ISU’s 91-42 win over Missouri Baptist on Wednesday.   

Del’Janae Williams (INS) -
With Adrian Folks out for the season, Indiana State looked for a new leading scorer and Del’Janae Williams has delivered over the last week. Williams continues to score at a blistering pace with an average of 19.5 points over the games against Chicago State and Western Michigan, while adding 3.5 assists, 7.0 steals, and 2.5 rebounds per game. Williams opened the week with a 24-point, 7-steal game at Chicago State and carried the Sycamores’ scorers down the stretch with a 12-for-14 performance from the free throw line. She also threw the final pass that led to Mya Glanton’s game-winner against the Cougars in the 59-58 win. Against Western Michigan, Williams added 15 points and seven more steals, and had the ball in her hands in the final possession of the one-point loss to the Broncos. She currently leads the MVC with 22 steals (2.8 per game), while her 81.8% free throw percentage is fourth in the league.

Maya Chandler (LUC) - Loyola sophomore guard Maya Chandler averaged a team-high 16.0 points in addition to 3.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists as the Ramblers split a pair of games on the East Coast over the weekend.  In Friday’s 73-37 rout of Dartmouth, Chandler went a red-hot 8-of-12 from the field en route to finishing with a game-high 20 points (8-12 FGs, 1-5 3FGs, 3-3 FTs), a total that was just a point off her career high.  She followed up that effort by adding 12 points (4-14 FGs, 4-4 FTs) and four rebounds in Sunday’s weekend finale against Vermont.  The reigning MVC Freshman of the Year, Chander currently leads Loyola in scoring (11.5 ppg) and is operating at a 49.2 percent (32-for-65) clip from the field. 

Sydney Wilson (MSU) - Senior Sydney Wilson dropped a team-high 19 points, which tied her season high, against William Jewell on Friday in MSU’s lone game of the week. Wilson shot 8-for-12 (67%) from the field and grabbed a season-high eight rebounds against the Cardinals, while also logging three steals and dishing out two assists in just 27 minutes. Over the last two weeks, Wilson is leading the Lady Bears with 18 ppg and has scored 19 points in back-to-back games.   

Karli Rucker (UNI) - Two double-digit scoring performances and a career record put senior guard Karli Rucker as one of the Panthers leaders this week in games against St. Thomas and South Dakota State. Rucker scored her 1,500th career point with a 3-point field goal in the first quarter against St. Thomas, putting her at 5th on UNI’s career scoring list right behind Diane Roberts who played for the Panthers from 1984-1988. Over two games last week Rucker averaged 11 points, 1.5 assists, and 40% FG shooting.   

Daija Powell (BU) - Powell provided Bradley’s inside power to compliment Haack’s outside game Saturday at North Dakota State, posting 17 points and a career-best seven rebounds against the Bison … Powell made 8-of-11 field goal attempts in her 28 minutes at North Dakota State. 

Megan Meyer (DU) - Drake junior guard Megan Meyer helped the Bulldogs to a fourth-straight win as Drake beat Longwood 104-82.  Meyer finished the game with 19 points and six rebounds, finishing 5-for-9 from behind the arc. Meyer’s five three-point field goals were a career high. 

Kenzie Bowers (ILS) - Bowers scored a career-high 17 points on 6-of-9 shooting in Wednesday’s win over Missouri Baptist. It was the first time a freshman led the Redbirds in scoring since Jan. 12, 2018 when recent graduate Paige Saylor had 15 points in a 56-50 loss to Missouri State at Redbird Arena. 

Ifunanya Nwachukwu  (MSU) - Junior college transfer Ifunanya Nwachukwu set career highs with eight points and 11 rebounds in Missouri State’s victory against William Jewell on Friday. The junior shot 57% (4-for-7) from the field, grabbed a game-leading seven offensive rebounds and blocked a shot in a season-high 19 minutes on the court. Nwachukwu’s seven offensive boards against the Cardinals are the most by any Lady Bear this season.
