INDIANAPOLIS, IN - For the 17th time in league history, the Missouri Valley Conference will send multiple teams to the NCAA Men's Soccer Tournament. MVC Men's Soccer Tournament champion Loyola Chicago will be joined by regular season champ and at-large bid Missouri State in the field of 48, as announced today by the NCAA.
The MVC Tournament champion Ramblers (11-4-4) will travel to face Kentucky (12-4-3) in the opening round of the tournament. The game is set for 6 p.m. CT Thursday in Lexington.
Loyola is making its fifth appearance in the NCAA Division I Tournament and first since 2016.
The winner will advance to a second-round tilt at No. 8 Indiana (14-2-4) on Sunday at noon.
Missouri State will host Denver (6-11-3) in the First Round of the 2019 NCAA Men’s Soccer Tournament on Thursday. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. CT from Allison South Stadium.
Missouri State, earning its fourth tournament berth in program history, will be making its first appearance in the NCAA Tournament since 2009.
As the only undefeated team remaining in Division I, the Bears opened the 2019 season with an historic 17-0 start while claiming the program’s eighth regular-season conference title. Their current 20-game unbeaten streak matches the 1999 team for the longest unbeaten stretch in program history.
Denver earned an automatic bid to the tournament with a 1-0 victory over Omaha on Saturday (Nov. 2) in the Summit League Championship. The Pioneers are 2-1-1 against mutual opponents with the Bears this season while riding a three-match winning streak into Thursday’s showdown.
The winner will advance to a second-round match at No. 9 UCF (14-2-2) on Sunday.
The men's NCAA Division I tournament is a field of 48, with the top 16 teams receiving a bye in the first round of play. The 2019 College Cup (Final Four) will take place at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, North Carolina, on Dec. 13 & 15.
