AUSTIN, Texas - Reed Timmer of Drake and Marcus Bartley of Southern Illinois represent the MVC on the 2017-18 Academic All-America® Division I basketball teams as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Of the 16 members on the 2017-18 CoSIDA Academic All-America® Division I men’s basketball teams, 11 have at least a 3.80 GPA, with five student-athletes sporting a perfect 4.0 GPA. The five members of the first team have an average GPA of 3.89, with all three teams combining for a 3.80 GPA.

The CoSIDA Academic All-America® Division I Men’s Basketball teams have four repeat performers – Joshua Braun (Grand Canyon University), Jordan Howard (University of Central Arkansas), A.J. Jacobson (North Dakota State University) and Tyler Seibring (Elon University) – from last year’s CoSIDA Academic All-America® teams. Additionally, Jacobson and Braun were named to the 2015-16 CoSIDA Academic All-America® teams.
A sport administration major with a 4.00 GPA, Bartley led Southern Illinois with 90 assists, despite missing the first six games of the season with a broken wrist. He returned in December and played in 26 games, including 22 starts. The Saint Louis transfer and Decatur, Illinois native averaged 6.7 points and ranked second on the team in 3-point shooting percentage at .383. In two games against Northern Iowa, he went 8-for-11 from outside the arc. Bartley is the program's first Academic All-America team pick since Bryan Mullins won the award in 2009.
Timmer, a first-team All-MVC selection closed the regular season with four-straight 20 points games and averaged 28.3 points per game in those contests. Timmer is Drake’s all-time scoring leader and ranks 19th in career scoring in MVC history with 1,974 points. He is the first in league history to earn the Enterprise Bank & Trust MVC Scholar-Athlete Award three times, sharing this year's honor with Loyola's Clayton Custer. Timmer is enrolled in Drake’s Doctorate of Pharmacy program.
