Franklin, Timmer Named Enterprise Bank MVC Scholar-Athletes of the Week

ST. LOUIS - Reed Timmer of Drake and Dani Franklin of Valparaiso have been selected Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athletes of the Week, presented by Enterprise Bank and Trust Company, Commissioner Doug Elgin announced today.  The two athletes were honored for their performances during the period of February 12-18.

To qualify for Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week laurels, student-athletes must carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20, completed at least one academic year at a Valley institution and must be at least a sophomore in academic standing.

Redshirt freshmen and first-year junior college transfers are not eligible. In addition to the academic qualifications, student-athletes are evaluated on their athletic performance during the one-week period.

Reed Timmer, Drake, Sr., Basketball, Pharmacy, 3.47 GPA
Timmer averaged 29.5 points per game in a pair of wins by shooting 54.8 percent from the field, 45.5 percent from the arc and 93.8 percent from the free-throw line. The senior opened the week with a career-high 39 points in a win over Indiana State with his 39 points being the most by a Bulldog since 2015-16. He was 11-of-19 from the field and 8-of-15 from the arc in the 39-point performance. Timmer followed that performance by scoring 20 points in a road win at Missouri State, including a three-pointer with 1.8 seconds left to win the game.  The win over the Bears was Drake’s third-ever win in Springfield.

Dani Franklin, Valparaiso, Sr., Basketball, Elementary Education, 3.57 GPA
Franklin continued to excel both in the classroom and on the court this week. Her classroom portion is unique, as she is currently student teaching in a second-grade classroom at Heflin Elementary School in Valpo. Franklin is pulling off the rare balance of student teaching - the equivalent of a full-time job - with playing college basketball. On the court this week, Franklin averaged a double-double of 24.0 ppg and 11.0 rpg, helping Valpo to competitive games against two of the top four teams in the conference. She exploded for a season-high 31 points on Friday, her third career game of 30+ points. That marked the second-highest single game scoring output by a Valley player in conference action this season. She followed with her fourth double-double of the season on Sunday, scoring 17 points and pulling down 13 rebounds.
