Hittner, Timmer Named Enterprise Bank MVC Scholar-Athletes of the Week

ST. LOUIS - Reed Timmer and Becca Hittner of Drake have been selected Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athletes of the Week, presented by Enterprise Bank and Trust Company, Commissioner Doug Elgin announced today.  The two athletes were honored for their performances during the period of January 1-7.

To qualify for Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week laurels, student-athletes must carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20, completed at least one academic year at a Valley institution and must be at least a sophomore in academic standing.

Redshirt freshmen and first-year junior college transfers are not eligible. In addition to the academic qualifications, student-athletes are evaluated on their athletic performance during the one-week period.

Reed Timmer, Drake, Sr., Basketball, Pharmacy, 3.51 GPA
Drake senior Reed Timmer led the Bulldogs in scoring to a pair of MVC wins by averaging 23.0 points per game on the week while shooting 58.3 percent from the floor (14-of-24) and 53.3 percent from the three-point arc (8-of-15). Timmer opened the week by scoring 28 points with six three-pointers, on 11 attempts, and added four assists in a 25-point win over Illinois State for his eighth 20-point game of the season. The senior followed that effort by scoring 18 points on 6-of-9 shooting in the road win at Indiana State.  Of those 18 points, 10 came in the final five minutes to help the Bulldogs preserve its second MVC road win of the season. His 28 points against Illinois State moved him into second all-time in career scoring at Drake and he now has 1,677 career points.

Becca Hittner, Drake, So., Basketball, Business Studies, 3.94 GPA
Drake sophomore Becca Hittner averaged 19.5 point, 6.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game as she helped the Bulldogs go 2-0 on its first MVC road trip. In the Missouri State victory, she poured in a game-high 24 points behind an efficient shooting performance of 6-of-10 from the floor, including making 3-of-6 from behind the three-point line, while adding six rebounds, one assist and one steal.  In the victory over SIU, she scored a game-high 15 points behind another 6-of-10 shooting performance, adding a career-high seven assists with seven rebounds and three steals.
