Rain on Wednesday night and Thursday day caused a change in the schedule for the 2016 MVC Softball Championship. No. 8 Missouri State beat No. 5 Bradley in the first game of the day by a score of 6-3. In the second game of the night, No. 7 Illinois State defeated No. 6 Evansville, 2-0. Friday will feature four games starting with No. 8 Missouri State vs. No. 4 Southern Illinois at 11:00 am. Game 4 will be played at 1:30 pm, followed by Game 5 at 4:00 pm and Game 6 at 6:30 pm.
In the first game on Friday, No. 4 Southern Illinois defeated No. 8 Missouri State by a score of 4-3. The next game featured No. 7 Illinois State against No. 3 UNI. The Redbirds were victorious, winning 2-1. Southern Illinois and Wichita State played the third game of the day with the No. 1 Seed advancing to the Championship. For the final game of the night, No. 2 Drake beat No. 7 Illinois State, 5-1. This is the first time in the current Championship format that the No. 1 Seed will play the No. 2 Seed in the final.
Wichita State claimed the 2016 MVC Softball Championship by defeating Drake, 5-1.
