2016 Valley Football All-Newcomer Team

ST. LOUIS — QB Chris Streveler of South Dakota has been named the Missouri Valley Football Conference Newcomer of the Year, while LB Christian Rozeboom of South Dakota State has earned MVFC Freshman of the Year honors. They head a list of 25 student-athletes named to the 2016 Missouri Valley Football Conference All-Newcomer Team. League coaches, sports information directors and a media panel selected the team.

For the fifth time in the past seven years, the league Newcomer of the Year is a quarterback as Streveler, a transfer from Minnesota, takes the honor this year. He ended the regular season as the MVFC's third-leading rusher and sixth-leading passer and was sixth nationally in points responsible for. The junior completed 164 of 273 passes for 1,947 yards with 22 TD passes, and he rushed 161 times for 823 yards and nine touchdowns. It marks the first time a Coyote has won the league’s Newcomer of the Year honor.

For the third time a South Dakota State freshman has earned the league's top rookie honor. Rozeboom led the Jackrabbits with 107 tackles, which included five TFL and three sacks. This season, he has registered 10 or more tackles in a game five times, including a league season-high 20 at Southern Illinois. He is a finalist for the STATS FCS Jerry Rice Award, given to the nation's top freshman. Rozeboom joins QB Austin Sumner (2011) and Jake Wieneke (2013) as Jackrabbits to win the league’s Freshman of the Year award.
