A native of Wichita, Kan., and a product of East High, Cleo Littleton became the first player west of the Mississippi River to score more than 2,000 career points and still ranks as WSU’s all-time scoring leader with 2,164.
He held the WSU freshman scoring record with an 18.5 points per game average and did not average less than 18.2 points a contest in his four seasons. His senior year, he averaged 21.2 points per game.
In 1953-54, he led the 27-4 Shockers to the NIT Tournament for the first time. Littleton played in 184 consecutive games without missing one from his sophomore season in high school through his senior season at Wichita State University.
A 1955 draft choice of the Fort Wayne Pistons, he was a charter inductee into the Wichita State Sports Hall of Fame in 1979. His number (#13) has been retired by Wichita State University.
