A native of Guthrie, Okla., Phil Stephenson was a three-time, first-team All-Missouri Valley Conference baseball choice, including Conference Player of the Year honors in 1982.
               
A first-team All-American at first base in 1981 and 1982, Stephenson was named the Baseball News College Player of the Year in 1982.
               
A second-team Academic All-American in 1982, Stephenson established a then-NCAA record by hitting safely in 47 consecutive games that same season.
               
A 1983 graduate of Wichita State, and member of the 1982 Shockers World Series Squad, he had a four-year Major League career with the Chicago Cubs and San Diego Padres.
