Hall of Fame
One of the building blocks for the Indiana State athletic department with a career spanning five decades, Klueh was a two-sport student-athlete in men’s basketball and tennis who later became head coach at both sports at his alma mater.
In fact, he holds the school records for most wins by a men’s basketball coach and a tennis mentor with 182 and 257, respectively.
A standout basketball player who scored 1,432 points at Indiana State from 1946-49, he was the Helms Foundation College Player of the Year and a Helms Foundation All-American in 1948.
Klueh was tabbed Chuck Taylor Most Valuable Player of the 1948 NAIB Tournament where Indiana State was national runner-up to Louisville.
A member of the NAIB All-Time Basketball Team, he is also inducted in the NAIA Hall of Fame and the Indiana State University Athletics Hall of Fame (1984).
Klueh played professional basketball for the Denver Nuggets and the Fort Wayne Pistons from 1949-51.
After his professional career, he returned to Indiana State in 1955 as head men’s basketball and tennis coach.
In men’s basketball, Klueh compiled a record of 182-122 from 1955-67 and was selected four times as Indiana Collegiate Conference Coach of the Year (1959, 1963, 1966 and 1967).
He also served as president of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Basketball Coaches.
