“The Hawk” remains one of the greatest players in Bradley University and Missouri Valley Conference men’s basketball history.  A two-time Valley Player of the Year in 1987 and 1988, Hawkins was the national player of the year in 1988 when he led the nation in scoring at 36.3 points per game.  His 3,008 career points remain the school and Valley record and now rank seventh in NCAA Division I history.   He is a member of the league's Charter Hall of Fame Class.

After helping the Braves to NCAA Tournament appearances in 1986 and 1988, Hawkins played in the 1988 Olympic Games, then enjoyed a 13-year NBA career.  A 1991 All-Star, Hawkins scored 14,470 points in the NBA and helped Seattle to the 1996 NBA Finals against the Chicago Bulls.
