A native of Wichita, Kan., and a product of Heights High, Antoine Carr helped bring his hometown university back to national prominence in the early 1980s.

In his final game against Southern Illinois, he established a Shocker scoring record with 47 points and later became one of only five Shockers to be honored by having his uniform number retired (#35). Carr received All-Missouri Valley Conference plaudits each of his four seasons, including first-team honors in 1982 and 1983.

As a senior in 1983, Carr earned first-team All-America honors and was voted the league’s Player of the Year. He ranks fourth all-time in career points at WSU with 1,911 and stands 16th on the Valley’s all-time scoring list.

Carr led the Shockers to two Missouri Valley Conference championships during his career, and was instrumental in the 1981 Wichita State squad reaching the finals of the NCAA Midwest Regional in New Orleans, LA.

A first-round draft choice of the Detroit Pistons, he played in back-to-back NBA finals – 1997 and 1998 – as a member of the Utah Jazz. Carr, who played for the Houston Rockets in 1998-99, was inducted into the Shocker Sports Hall of Fame in 1989.
