Swift, Ferrell, Theisen, Petersen Named Athletes of the Week
Greggmar Swift, Byron Ferrell, and Mary Theisen of Indiana State and Ashley Petersen of Wichita State have been named MVC Athletes of the Week.
Missouri Valley Conference Men’s Track Athlete of the Week
Greggmar Swift - Sr. - Indiana State (Bridgetown, Barbados)
Swift had another great race this weekend at the EIU Panther Last Chance Twilight meet, as he ran the fastest time in the preliminary round of 13.55 seconds, before taking second to Wis. – Milwaukee’s Durell Busby by the closest of margin’s with Busby winning in a time of 13.56 seconds with Swift at 13.57 seconds. Swift was about a tenth of a second off his season’s best time, which ranks him fourth in the nation with a time of 13.43 seconds.

Byron Ferrell - Jr. - Indiana State (Merrillville, Ind.)
Ferrell cleared a season best height in the pole vault at the EIU Last Chance Twilight meet, as he cleared 17 feet 0.25 inches to place second overall in the event. His clearance ranks him 66th in the nation in 2014.
Missouri Valley Conference Women’s Field Athlete of the Week
Mary Theisen - Sr. - Indiana State (Fall Creek, Wis.)
Theisen picked up a victory in the discus, as well as two runner-up finishes in the shot put and hammer throw in a busy day at the EIU Last Chance Twilight meet. Theisen won the discus with a throw of 173 feet 7 inches, placed second in the shot put with a great throw of 54 feet 10 inches to place second. She wrapped up the day with a 169 feet 5 inches throw in the hammer throw to place second. Theisen was just off her season best throw in the shot put, which has her ranked 13th nationally.

Ashley Petersen - So. - Wichita State (Allegany, N.Y.)
Petersen set a new personal best and won the high jump event at the Wildcat Open last weekend with a height of 5'10 1/2". Her new height ranks atop of the MVC and will enter the MVC Outdoor Championships as the favorite. Petersen also won the Outdoor high jump event a year ago.
