Missouri Valley Conference Men’s Track Athlete of the Week
Ryan Rutherford - Jr. - Illinois State (Bloomington, Ill.)
Ryan Rutherford ran to a record-breaking time of 28.41.23 late Friday evening at the Stanford Invite to capture an Illinois State and Missouri Valley Conference record in the 10,000-meter run. Rutherford beat the former Valley record of 28:42.71 set by Jeff Schirmer of Southern Illinois in 2011 and was 18 seconds faster than the 15-year old ISU record set by Julius Mwangi in 1999. The junior bested his former personal-record by over a minute, notching a fifth-place finish overall in a competitive 75-man field. The Bloomington, Ill., native’s time currently sits as the No. 5 best time on the NCAA leaderboard.
Other Notable Performances: Eric Delvo (Bradley); Steven Jordan (Drake); Greggmar Swift (Indiana State); Ryan Van Portfliet (Loyola); Kemar Jones (Southern Illinois); Kelvin Busienei (Wichita State)
Missouri Valley Conference Men's Field Athlete of the Week
Josh Freeman - So. - Southern Illinois (Fox River Grove, Ill.)
Only one week has passed since sophomore Josh Freeman set the all-time Southern Illinois and Missouri Valley Conference outdoor shot put records at the Bill Cornell Spring Classic on March 29, and yet this past weekend those two records have fallen by Freeman’s hand once again. The Fox River Grove, Ill., native shattered his one-week old records on a winning heave of 19.35m (63-06.00) — which also registered as the EIU Big Blue Classic and O’Brien Field records (the latter of which was held by SIU throws coach John Smith). Freeman, who set the indoor SIU shot record in January, now owns three all-time shot put records between SIU and the MVC in less than two years at Southern. Nationally, his latest mark ranks sixth nationally and fourth in the NCAA West Region.
Other Notable Performances: Andy Curtis (Drake); Kevin Fisch (Illinois State); Antwon James (Loyola); Garrett Lynch (Wichita State)

Kristen Busch - So. - Bradley (Waterloo, Ill.)

Busch, who ran the 10,000 meters for the first time in her career, broke Mary Ellen Hill’s 2000 school record of 34:50.62 by over one minute and posted the 11th best 10,000 meter time in the NCAA this season.
Katie Wise - So. - Indiana State (Morgantown, Ind.)
Wise ran a great race to win the 100 meter dash at the Big Blue Classic this past weekend in a time of 11.34 seconds. Her time was her fastest of the young season and ranks her 7th in the nation, as well as first in the Missouri Valley Conference.
