MVC Swimmer of the Week

Pamela Benitez - Sr. - Southern Illinois (San Salvador, El Salvador)

The San Salvador, El Salvador native won three events in SIU’s first dual meet of the season against Evansville. Benitez led the Saluki women to a 138-105 win over the Aces. Benitez started the day by winning the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:22.82. She then took the 200-yard freestyle (1:52.77), three seconds better than her Saluki teammate Helena Amorim. In her final event of the day, Benitez won the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:02.64, to help secure the first win of the season for the Salukis.

MVC Diver of the Week

Wenting Zhang - Jr. - Illinois State (Shenzhen, China)

Zhang scored 279.6 this past weekend at the Dennis Stark Relays competing against two top twenty NCAA teams, Auburn and Notre Dame.  She also placed second in overall scores for the Missouri Valley Conference this last weekend.
