Track & Field Weekly Honors (Feb. 17)

Male Track Athlete of the Week - 

Adam Fogg, Jr., Drake (Brisbane, Australia)
Adam Fogg became the first Drake student-athlete to break the 4-minute mark in the mile with a 3:59.03 finish in the event at the Iowa State Classic. With the feat, he also became just the 75th Australian to run a sub 4-minute mile in national history. He finished second overall in the event and currently owns the fastest time in the Valley by nearly seven seconds and is ranked 19th in the nation.

Female Track Athlete of the Week - 

Madison Meredith, Sr., Missouri State (Birmingham, Michigan) 
Madison Meredith continued the stellar start to her debut season with Missouri State at the Gorilla Classic this weekend, winning both the 60-meter and 200-meter dash.  She clocked a 7.44 in the 60m to tie for the program’s third-fastest indoor time and marked a personal record in the 200m with her time of 24.22.  Both times rank first among Valley sprinters.  In her first season with the Bears, the senior from Birmingham, Mich. has won all four events she has competed in after sweeping both sprint races at the Washburn Open (Jan. 30).

Male Field Athlete of the Week - 

Kevin Krutsch, Fr., Indiana State (Mishawaka, Indiana)
Kevin Krutsch earned the first victory in the field for the ISU men on Saturday at the Indiana State Invitational, walking away with a win in the high jump after tying a personal-best clearance of 2.11m (6-11.00). The freshman sits atop the Missouri Valley Conference with teammate Nick Schultz, with the next closest clearance coming at 2.02m (6-07.50). He is also sitting at 26th in the nation.

Female Field Athlete of the Week - 

Kameesha Smith, Sr., Illinois State (South Holland, Illinois)
In only her second meet of the 2021 indoor season, Kameesha Smith broke a 29-year-old Illinois State high jump school record, clearing 1.82 meters (5-11.5 ft.) to win the event at the Grand Valley State University Big Meet (Friday, Feb. 12). Winning the competition at GVSU by 3.5 inches, the South Holland, Illinois native did not miss a bar until the 1.82 mark, clearing four bars (1.65m, 1.69m, 1.73m and 1.77m) on her first attempts with ease before winning the event and making history as ISU's newest school record holder. She ultimately went on to clear 1.82 the second attempt. Smith's jump is currently tied for the sixth-best mark in the nation and leads the Missouri Valley Conference by 1.5 inches. She has gone undefeated in the high jump since her first indoor meet last season (Jan. 25, 2020). The last time she lost a high jump competition was at the 2019 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, where she finished 12th and became a second-team All-American.

UNI is set to host the MVC Indoor Track & Field Championship February 26-28th in Cedar Falls, IA. 

*MVC Track & Field Athletes of the Week are selected each week during the Indoor Track & Field season. Nominees are provided by each school’s sports information contact and voted on by a panel appointed by the league office.
