2019 MVC Women's Golf Scholar-Athlete Team

   MVC Elite 17 Award recipient Hannah Bermel of UNI is one of nine student-athletes on the 2019 MVC Women’s Scholar-Athlete First Team, announced by the league office today.  A total of 14 student-athletes received recognition by earning either first-team or honorable-mention honors.

    Golfer of the Year Thilda Staubo of Indiana State is one of two repeat first-team picks on the team, voted on by the league's golf sports information directors.  Those who earned first-team honors this year and last year include Staubo and Bradley's Frankie Saban.  They are joined on the first-team unit by Bermel, Elayna Bowser of Loyola, Sydney Eaton of UNI, Sierra Hargens of Indiana State, Erica Kerr of Southern Illinois, Taylor Ledwein of Bradley and Caitlin Sims of Illinois State.

   In addition to the nine first-team selections, five student-athletes received honorable mention selection by virtue of receiving a minimum number of votes.  A total of 31 student-athletes were nominated for women’s golf scholar-athlete honors.

   The criteria for the MVC scholar-athlete team parallels the CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) standards for academic Academic All-America® program.  Nominees must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (4.0 scale), while the student-athletes must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their institutions and must have participated in at least 50 percent of her team’s rounds or played at the MVC Championship.

   Southern Illinois won the MVC Championship, April 14-16, in Chesterton, Ind..  The Salukis will compete in the NCAA Regionals at the Tumble Creek Golf Club hosted by the University of Washington from May 6-8.
