MVC Offensive Player of the Week
Cory Griffith, Sr., F, Valparaiso (Lemont, Ill.)
Griffith broke Valpo’s single-match record by scoring an MVC season-high four goals in Sunday’s win over Robert Morris, carrying Valpo to a 4-2 victory. She scored all four of her goals in a 28-minute stretch spanning the two halves, netting a first-half hat trick before closing out her scoring with a 48th-minute goal. Griffith, who is the only player in Valpo history with multiple hat tricks during her career and also broke the program’s single-match record for points, now owns Valpo’s career match-winning goals record with 11 and ranks second in program history in career goals (26) and third in career points (58).
MVC Defensive Player of the Week
Danielle Varner, So., D, Indiana State (Henderson, Nev.)
Danielle Varner continued to lead the Sycamore defense with a pair of shutouts and just two goals allowed over a three-game road stretch that saw the Sycamores go undefeated at 2-0-1. Varner was extremely active she continues to be the front line of defense and limit the amount of shots that opponents are able to get on goal. She added to her contributions with her first goal of the season a second half equalizer at Akron which led to a 2-2 draw with the Zips.
MVC Newcomer of the Week
Anna Durnin, R-Fr., F/M, Missouri State (Wentzville, Mo.)
Anna Durnin found the net early to boost Missouri State to a 1-0 victory over Omaha here Friday night. From the jump Durnin was hot offensively, taking two shots within the opening five minutes. While the first fell wide, Durnin’s second attempt from 20 yards out connected in goal giving the Bears the 1-0 advantage, and eventually the win. She had four of the Bears’ eight shot attempts.
