ST. LOUIS - Taryn Rolle of Drake and Owen Miller of Illinois State have been selected Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athletes of the Week, presented by Enterprise Bank and Trust Company, Commissioner Doug Elgin announced today. The two athletes were honored for their performances during the period of April 9-April 15.
To qualify for Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week laurels, student-athletes must carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20, completed at least one academic year at a Valley institution and must be at least a sophomore in academic standing.
Redshirt freshmen and first-year junior college transfers are not eligible. In addition to the academic qualifications, student-athletes are evaluated on their athletic performance during the one-week period.
Owen Miller, Illinois State, Jr., Baseball, Business Administration, 3.62 GPA
Miller batted .522 for the week (12-of-23). He scored two runs and drove in three RBI during Illinois State’s 3-2 week in which it won a conference series at Indiana State for the first time since 1994. In five games, Miller had three multi-hit games, including one in each of the last four games of the week, and saw his batting average rise from .330 heading into the week, to .362, where it currently stands. In the opener at Illinois, he went 1-for-4 with a walk. Against St. Francis he went 4-for-5 at the plate with a run scored and two RBI. In the opener at Indiana State he was 2-for-4 at the plate, before going 3-for-5 in the middle game of the series with a run scored and a run driven in. In the weekend finale, he went 2-for-5 at the plate. He also played mistake-free defense during the weekend, with 15 chances in the field and zero errors.

Rolle shattered a Drake school record with a jump of 41-8.5 (12.71m) in the triple jump at the Jim Duncan Invitational. The effort bested the field by more than six feet to win the event and the mark is the best this season in The Valley by more than seven inches and ranks in the top 40 nationally. Rolle also ran a leg on the winning 4x100 meter relay that finished with a time of 47.23.
