MVC WOMEN'S RECAPS
Three MVC teams competed in the Saluki Invitational, including Loyola, Valparaiso and host SIU. Southern Illinois finished the tournament with a final score of 624, 48 over par, seven strokes behind first place IUPUI who won the tournament, contested at the par-72, 6,075-yard Hickory Ridge Golf Course in Carbondale, Ill. SIU Freshman Moyea Russell (+1) was the individual tournament champion, making it her first collegiate win. Russell shot a 71, her lowest score yet, and 74 for a combined total of 145. Russell's first round score tied for second in top-first round individual score and her 36-hole score tied her for the fourth lowest score in the Saluki Invitational record book. Russell's win marks back-to-back Salukis winning the tournament. Assistant Coach Brooke Cusumano won the honor last year. The Saluki Invitational marked the Dawgs sixth top-five finish and ninth top-10 finish this season. Loyola finished 7th in the field, while Valpo was 8th. Katie Willenbrink (Mishawaka, Ind. / Penn) was the top performer for the Crusaders, carding an 81 in the opening round before following with an 82 in Round 2. She finished with a team-low 163, good enough to tie for 25th overall. Loyola was paced by junior Elayna Bowser, who placed sixth overall with a two-round 76-75--151.
On the final day of the Mountain View Collegiate, the Missouri State women's golf team held steady at 14th. The Bears showed resilience in round three, coming back to shoot 301-315-303--919. Once again, Missouri State stayed ahead of Wyoming in the standings. As a team, Illinois regained control of the lead, finishing with 875 strokes. San Jose State (884) stayed in second, nine strokes behind Illinois, while Missouri (885), Kansas (889), and Central Arkansas (890) rounded out the top five. Stine Pettersen successfully led the Bears in all three rounds, carding 74 on Sunday. The senior shot 73-76-74--223 to finish tied for 19th, a season low score and best finish this year. Her four birdies contributed to a two-over par finish where she went even on the back nine. The loaded 15-team field included 10 top-100 teams, including team champ Illinois (27).
The University of Northern Iowa women's golf team finished in first place at the ORU/SFA Spring Break Shootout (March 19-21). The Panthers blew away their competition in all three rounds of the tournament as runner-up UT-Arlington's final team score of (944) fell quite short of UNI's score of (922). UNI's three-round sweep resulted in three top-10 finishes and the team's first outright win since October 29, 2012, at the Braun Intercollegiate in Boonville, Indiana. Paige Van Dyk, who finished in second place overall, recorded her season-low after finishing at an even (72) last Wednesday. The senior also carded four birdies on day three. Her three-round totals were 78-76-72—-226.
Drake's women's golf team finished in 12th-place out of 16 teams at the Red Rocks Invitational Sunday at the Oakcreek Country Club in Sedona, Ariz. The Bulldogs recorded a 326 in the final round for a 54-hole total of 968 (321-321-326) and were just a stroke back from 10th-place Boise State and Seattle. College of Charleston took home the team title with a score of 909 (301-306-302). Freshman Sam Paulak fired a five-over par 77 to lead Drake on the final day and finished with a total score of 243 (89-77-77). Sophomore Aimee Gerschke finished as the team's top scorer for the first time of the season with a total score of 242 (76-82-84).
For the second-straight week, freshman Sophia Rohleder paced the University of Evansville women's golf team as the Purple Aces earned an ninth-place finish at the Little Rock/Arkansas State Invitational at Maumelle Country Club in Maumelle, Ark. Evansville opened the tournament with a team score of 332 on Monday before improving on the second day with team scores of 320 and 316 in the final two rounds as the Aces finished ninth. Capturing the team championship was UTEP, who finished the invitational with a three-round total of 878 (284 - 300 - 294), earning the Miners a 13-stroke advantage over second-place finishing Northern Illinois. Rohleder led Evansville after rebounding from an opening-round 82, carding a 78 and 75 on the final day of competition to place her in a tie for 36th with a three-round total of 235. This marks the second-straight week in which Rohleder has finished as the highest-finishing Ace after finishing in a tie for 16th with a three-round total of 232 at the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate last week.

MVC MEN'S RECAPS
The Southern Illinois University men's golf team won its second tournament championship of the season, taking first place in the 24-team William & Mary Intercollegiate on Tuesday. SIU junior Peyton Wilhoit (-2) won his second individual title of the season by staging a stunning comeback in the second and third rounds. After one round, Wilhoit was +4 and tied for 21st place. He vaulted into third place with a -2 score in the second round and then matched his career-low with a -4 score of 66 in the final round. Wilhoit was the only golfer to shoot under par for the tournament and he beat second-place finishers Brent Morgan of St. Bonaventure's and Brendan Peel of Loyola (Md.) by three strokes. Southern moved up the team standings each day, starting at third place after one round (293) and then posting the tournament's top two rounds with a 284 on Monday, followed by a 285 today. SIU beat second-place Utah Valley by four strokes.
A strong final round for the Missouri State men's golf team allowed the Bears to finish sixth Tuesday (Mar. 27) at the Lake Charles Invitational in Lake Charles, La. The Bears moved up a spot from seventh with their best round of the tournament, a three-under 285, to go with 288-303 on Monday to tally an 876 total in three trips around the Golden Nugget Country Club course and finish in the middle of the 11-team field. Louisiana cruised to the team title, posting 850 compared to second-place Marquette and its 862 total. Stephen F. Austin (870) finished third, a shot ahead of Lamar (871) and three clear of Texas State (874). Then came the Bears in sixth, followed by Southern Mississippi and host McNeese State (881), Nicholls State (889), Southeastern Louisiana (898) and New Orleans (899).
