Women's Basketball Player/Newcomer of the Week (Dec. 17)

Bradley’s Lasha Petree registered 28 points and connected on six three-point field goals in the Braves’ 80-60 win at Omaha, en route to the league's Player of the Week and Newcomer of the Week honor.  Petree becomes the seventh player in MVC history to sweep the weekly awards since the Newcomer of the Week began during the 2003-04 season.

MISSOURI VALLEY CONFERENCE PLAYER & NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK:

Petree knocked down 6-of-10 three-pointers and scored a game-high 28 points to lead Bradley to an 80-60 victory at Omaha Friday.  Playing just 25 minutes, Petree had an efficient outing by making 9-of-16 from the field and tallied one rebound, one assist and a pair of steals as she topped 20 points for the fourth time this season.  She helped the Braves match the second-longest win streak in program history with their eighth consecutive victory in addition to remaining one of 17 undefeated teams in the nation.  Petree scored 16 of her 28 points in the first half, including a 10-point outburst during a 19-5 Bradley run to close the second quarter and help the Braves to a 38-28 halftime lead.  She is second in the MVC in scoring at 18.1 points per game this season and ranks third in the nation among freshmen in scoring.  

Noteworthy - In addition to the league's player and newcomer of the week selections, several conference players had notable performances, and they include:  

Sara Rhine (DU) - In Drake’s close loss to in-state foe, Iowa State, Sara Rhine led the offense with 22 points on 8-of-13 shooting, including 5-of-5 from the free throw line, and just missed her fifth double-double this season with nine rebounds. Rhine, who has scored double figures in every game this season, added one block and one steal. She continues to lead the Missouri Valley Conference in scoring (18.9) and field goal percentage (59.0) and is fourth in rebounding (8.3).

Simone Goods (ILS) -  Simone Goods was the driving force behind the Redbirds’ fourth straight victory on Sunday as she tallied another 20-point game and added her eighth career double-double with 13 rebounds. Goods also dished out a career high of three assists. The senior forward averages just shy of a double-double this season with 17.3 points and 9.0 rebounds per game. Additionally, this is the fourth time this season she has had a 20+ showing and the fourth time corralling more than 10 rebounds.  

Kat Nolan (LUC) - Loyola sophomore forward/center Kat Nolan scored a career-high 17 points as the Ramblers dropped an 88-74 decision to visiting UMKC on Sunday afternoon in its only action of the week.  The Arlington Heights, Ill. native finished a perfect 8-of-8 from the field, while also grabbing five rebounds and dishing out an assist.  Nolan, who is operating at a team-best 54 percent clip from the field, is playing arguably enjoying the top stretch of her collegiate career as MVC play approaches, averaging nearly a double-double (9.4 ppg, 7.2 rpg) over Loyola’s last five games. 

Brice Calip (MSU) - Brice Calip scored a career-high 20 points Sunday against 21st-ranked Gonzaga, going 7-for-14 from the field and 6-for-6 at the foul line with five rebounds and an assist. The sophomore scored 12 points in the second half, leading the Lady Bears back from a 14-point deficit to trailing 61-60 with four minutes left before falling 70-67.  

Karli Rucker (UNI) - Karli Rucker scored a team-high 16 points on 7-14 from the field and 2-4 from the three-point line. She had four rebounds, four assists and a steal against Iowa. 

Addison Stoller (VALPO) - After getting close on several prior occasions, Stoller racked up 11 points and pulled down 10 rebounds on Sunday vs. North Dakota State for her first career double-double. She equaled her career best in rebounding and continues to lead the team at 7.5 per game. She is one of two Valpo players averaging in double figures with 11.4 points per game. 

A’Niah Griffin (UE) - In a road game at Dayton, freshman A’Niah Griffin helped the Purple Aces get out to a fast start. On Saturday, Griffin tied a career-high with nine points, adding three rebounds and a block, scoring all nine points during a 16-3 Evansville run to open the game. This season, Griffin is averaging 4.9 points per game and 3.8 boards per game, leading all Aces’ freshman in rebounds per contest.
 
Janae Gonzales (LUC) -
Loyola freshman guard Janae Gonzales chipped in 12 points, reaching double figures in scoring for the fourth time in six games, as the Ramblers fell to UMKC by a final count of 88-74 on Sunday afternoon in Rogers Park.  Out of Tolleson, Ariz., Gonzales also handed out a season-high five assists, collected two rebounds and came away with a steal against the Kangaroos.  The 5-foot-8 sharpshooting guard is currently averaging 10.2 points, a mark that ranks second amongst MVC freshmen. 

Cynthia Wolf (UNI) - Cynthia Wolf came off the bench to score a season-high 11 points in just 14 minutes on the floor against Iowa. She was 4-6 from the floor and 3-5 from the three-point line. She also grabbed two rebounds, tallied an assist and tallied a block.

Ilysse Pitts (VALPO) - The Valpo freshman finished two rebounds shy of a double-double, accumulating eight boards to go along with 10 points on Sunday vs. North Dakota State. She matched her career best with 10 points while establishing a personal watermark with the eight rebounds. Pitts also knocked two a pair of 3-pointers and swiped two steals.
