EVANSVILLE, IN - Central Arkansas claimed a 2-1 win over Loyola in the 2018 Missouri Valley Conference Men's Soccer Championship Sunday afternoon in Evansville.
Central Arkansas claims its second-straight MVC Tournament title and secured its second-straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament as a Division I member. The Bears became the first team to repeat as MVC tourney champions since Creighton won back-to-back titles in 2011 and 2012.
Central Arkansas became the 14th team since 1991 to earn an MVC regular season title along with a tournament crown, joining Bradley, Creighton, Missouri State, SMU and Tulsa as the only teams to accomplish the feat.
Niklas Brodacki scored the game's first goal in the 17th minute on a penalty kick to break open the scoring. Brodacki has scored in four-straight MVC Tournament matches with all of those resulting in a win or advancement.
Daltyn Knutson scored the game's second goal in the 53rd minute as his free kick was off the cross bar and deflected back to him for a header into the net.
Loyola found the back of the net late in the second half as Aidan Megally scored on a penalty kick in the 79th minute of action. The Ramblers kept pressing to get the equalizer but could not manage to even the score.
The Bears will find out their opening round opponent in the 2018 NCAA Men's Soccer Championship during the Division I Men's Soccer Selection Announcement on Monday, Nov. 12, at 12 PM (CST), on NCAA.com.
