ST. LOUIS - Josh Yeager of Drake and Jessica Allen of Missouri State have been selected Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athletes of the Week, presented by Enterprise Bank and Trust Company, Commissioner Doug Elgin announced today. The two athletes were honored for their performances during the period of August 28- September 3.
To qualify for Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week laurels, student-athletes must carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20, completed at least one academic year at a Valley institution and must be at least a sophomore in academic standing.
Redshirt freshmen and first-year junior college transfers are not eligible. In addition to the academic qualifications, student-athletes are evaluated on their athletic performance during the one-week period.
Josh Yeager, Drake, Jr., Cross Country, Rhetoric, Media & Social Change/Sociology, 3.86 GPA
Yeager was Drake’s top finisher at the season-opening Iowa Hawkeye Invitational over the weekend. The junior finished 12th overall on the 6K course with a time of 18:14.0 in a meet that featured competitors from Iowa, Iowa State, UNI and Illinois State . He was the top finisher from The Valley at the meet and finished less than half a minute behind the leaders. His 6K time of 18:14.0 is currently the best in the MVC this season.
Jessica Allen, Missouri State, Sr., Cross Country, Cell & Molecular Biology, 3.97 GPA
Allen ran a personal best 4K time of 14:04.8 at the Wichita State J.K. Gold Classic on Saturday. It marked the fastest 4K time in the conference by over 18 seconds during the weekend. She finished third overall, but finished first among collegiate runners, running against 108 other competitors and three D1 teams. Allen also led the pack of 14 Bears in the race at the RAFT Golf Course in Augusta, Kan.
