Chicago, IL -- University of Delaware senior runningback Omar Cuff, Nicholls State University junior safety Ladarius Webb, Western Illinois University junior kicker Taylor Rowan and the giant slayer teams of Appalachian State University and Drake University are the recipients of CSN national Football Championship Subdivision honors for the week ending 9/3/2007.
Taylor Rowan matched a school and Gateway Football Conference record with five field goals in the Western Illinois 29-26 four-overtime win against No. 19 South Dakota State. He started in the second quarter booting a PAT. He then connected on a pair of fourth-quarter field goals from 23 and 30 yards to extend the Leathernecks' lead to 13-6. A 38-yarder forced a second overtime period, and a 27-yarder sent the game into its fourth extra session. He then kicked a 27-yarder to give Western Illinois its 29-26 lead.
Rowan also improved his consecutive PAT streak to 91, converting one in overtime. He is 13 away from setting a league record for consecutive PATs. He also averaged 60.8 yards on his four kickoffs. Ironically Rowan outduelled the opposing kicker, SDSU's All-American Parker Douglass, scoring 17 points to Douglass' 14.
Omar Cuff, the Colonial Athletic Association’s first-ever Offensive Player of the Week, had a career night in Delaware's 49-31 win over William and Mary. Cuff carried the ball 30 times for 244 yards and six touchdowns, also receiving four passes for 52 yards and another score. The seven touchdowns tied an NCAA FCS record. Cuff also set Delaware school records for rushing touchdowns and total touchdowns.
Ladarius Webb tied a Nicholls State record with three interceptions in the Colonels 16-14 victory over FBS Rice. Webb stopped the first Owls drive with an interception at the Colonel's 20 yard line. On Rice's second play after Nicholls State had tied the score at 7-7, Webb nabbed his second pick and took it 32 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter. The points gave the Colonels a lead they would not relinguish. His final theft of the night ended the Owls first drive of the fourth quarter. Webb also contributed to the Colonels stifling defense that held Rice to just 218 total yards with his seven tackles, second on the team. To top it off, Webb added punt and kickoff returns totaling 126 yards including a 61 yard kick return in the second quarter.
