Valley Announces Golfers of the Week (Apr. 3)
Jake Erickson of Southern Illinois and Katie Jean of Illinois State have been selected Missouri Valley Conference Golfers of the Week.

Freshman Joey Johnson tied for seventh and led the Missouri State men's golf team to a seventh-place finish Tuesday (Apr. 2) at the Arkansas State Red Wolves Classic in Jonesboro, Ark. Johnson, an Ozark, Mo. native, has led the Bears in all four of their spring tournaments, this time by shooting 73-70-71--214, two under par at RidgePointe Country Club, to post his sixth top-15 finish of the season. As a team, the Bears shot 297-292-300--889 to move up a spot in the 20-team field on the final day. Juniors Nick Langley and Eric Straub were next for the Bears, tying for 39th overall with 225 totals; Langley carded 73-74-78 while Straub had 75-75-75. Freshman Brik Brauburger tied for 66th after posting 76-78-76--230 and Mitch Mather shot 77-73-84--234 and tied for 84th. Sophomores Adam Welch and Mark Karlsen tied for 72nd with 232 totals while competing as individuals. Welch carded 77-74-81 and Karlsen had 78-74-80. Medalist honors went to Anthony Bradley of Austin Peay State as he went wire-to-wire with 69-68-72--209.
The Southern Illinois men's golf team finished third at the 20-team ASU Red Wolves Intercollegiate, hosted by Arkansas State. The Salukis had two top-10 finishers for the first time this year. With all three rounds' team scores under 300, SIU extended its sub-300 team score streak to six rounds, the longest streak in nearly five years.

The Southern Illinois women's golf team dropped a dual meet with Murray State on Saturday at the Dalhousie Golf Club in Cape Girardeau, Mo. SIU scored a 318 in the one-round dual meet but couldn't top Murray State, who shot a 309.
